What’s Your Story?
Spring of 2007, our main computer died. Literally. In the middle of a major launch. In fact, we were at the computer store searching for a new laptop and conducting a scheduled teleseminar at the same time. Little did we know that our troubles were just beginning.
A new computer- what excitement!! Until we started using it. S…L…O…W doesn’t begin to describe it. Plus several of the programs that we used daily would not even work on it.
And it seems to crash …often ….for no reason…the screen just goes dark. Frustrating.
This blog is for ranting, complaining, and just plain getting it off your chest. Microsoft, how could you do this?
We will also provide tips and solutions and work arounds to better enable you to get done what needs doing on a substandard operating system.
Please, tell your story here.

Wow, this is great. Now let me begin.
I have always been fascinated by roll outs of products but I have done none myself..
So let me break the ice for you!
Boy this long but it needa to be told.
I will comment the story in my last post
Anyway I off an will chat tonight or in the moring
Last December, after 2 years & 2 months (& consequently out of guarantee) my beautiful HP Pavilion (+XP) went awry & couldn’t be fixed. Some sort of design fault which only manifested itself after 2 years.
In January I bought a Vaio (with Vista pre-installed) & hated Vista so much I was literally crying with frustration. I’m not very tech minded but I found the transition from Windows 1998 to 2000 to XP effortless.
I contacted a local independent computer company & they assured me that HP still produced a good PC & within three days they had fixed me up with a new Pavilion with XP Professional. I use XP at work so it’s so easy to work from home. The indie company ’s main customers are firms who want laptops for their staff & want XP on them.
My brand new £800 Vaio sits in it’s box in the spare room & from time to time I fired it up to see if I still hate Vista & I do! I’m thinking about taking it to my indie guy & getting Vista removed & replaced with XP. I might as well because I’ll never use it otherwise.
Or I could give it to a worthy charity.
I have installed vista on my Laptop (DELL) for the first time and actually it will be the last time.Vista as an OS is so slow in its performance. Also some programs is not compatible with vista. Also i figured that there is a problem when making a PC to PC connection via LAN.As a user of “XP OS” it is one of the best operating systems i have used.
The outside of vista is very appealing. But that only goes so far. Vista does have many upsides but compared to its downsides its not worth the $300. Vista will be great but for the average user now its not a great Operating System. Vista requires not only a lot of ram but also cannot be run on older systems because of its lack of compatibility and lack of beta tests.
Not sure where Microsoft drew the line between a beta OS and…. well a paid beta OS.
Vista at this point is not worth it and not required. Stick with XP and you will be much happier.
i don’t prefer to use it becase what i heared about it.
i have graphic card 256MB but when i installed windows vista , the graphic card was read as 64MB only
I upgraded to Vista from Xp and now I can’t use the printer because it says off line and I don’t get any sound. I am really sorry I did thisbecause I have so many issues and can’t get any one to tell me how to fix it.
What we have with the Vista epidemic, is a true example of a major company forcing crap on its consumers. The only thing about our situation is that we dont have anywhere else to go. And thats the shame ….
But anyway, I am a tech in the Army. The only OS we are authorized to use is XP. Recently, one of the groups within my administrative reach procured a new Gateway desktop. Naturally, it came from the store with Vista. OK no problem just install XP right? Wrong…
To start off I had to hand make a copy of XP, due to SATA/RAID driver issues. So after a day wasted on trying to find a solution, Nlite got me running. Ok , now XP is installed…. YAY!!! Wait…..
Nothing works.
The OS operates beautifully. With a Quad core CPU and 2GB of RAM. (Which by Vista standards, Is only minimally sufficient) None of the add-ons work. There is no Ethernet port, no sound, Shoddy video, and limited USB use.
After about a week of searching, and identifying indivual components, some parts worked. Video, thankfully was an Nvidia card, the integrated parts like usb and ethernet were remedied by a lengthly trip to the Intel site.
The sound still doesnt work. NONE of the additional card readers work. And there it this TV tuner card that was built for Vista……. The XP drivers wont even install.
For the Military applications that its being used for, the limited Capabilities are just enough. But this is not acceptable….
Sure there is no need for a tv tuner card or sound for that matter, but thats beside the point. If a linux box can run just about any IBM compatable device, why cant Vista play nice with everybody?
XP was a major flag-ship for Microsoft. Sure it had its Qwirks, like the ominous compatability list. But it was nothing like this. I can only hope that Vista positively encourages Software and hardware designers to push back when Big ole’ Microsoft decides to “change the World”.
Moreover I believe as a consumer that buyers of the product arent being heard. Vista has done nothing but upset people since its release. So why is it still being pushed. This reminds me too much of the Millenium Edition fiasco. But I honestly think ME was more productive. I do apologize for the length of this but it needs to be said until MS hears it
XP to Vista
Why can.t Vista?
If XP can find it and make it work, and work well and they have all the code and drivers for XP, they could and should include that code and make it work in Vista. But instead, what did they do?
They choose to bloat the system with a hidden backside network that drags everything down, hardware and software.
Some of your old programs still work in Vista but they work slower. You can hardly run 1/2 the programs simultaneously that XP can run. That is a downgrade of performance of 1/2.
You run half as fast, if not slower. That is another 1/2 downgrade of performance.
Half the programs at half as fast!
You can hardly run one tenth of the programs that you can run in XP in Vista. That is a downgrade of 90%!
If you run window blinds on top of XP for eye candy, you can still outperform Vista. If you run a server on XP with window blinds running you still outperform Vista.
Battery life is 1/2 in Vista of what you get in XP.
All while running 100% Vista approved hardware!
If you bought a new car that went half as fast and took twice the gas at four times the price because your dealer convinced you to upgrade to the next model in the series, you would be rightfully angry knowing that you had been taken advantage of.
Ladies and gentlemen, I Give You Vista!
Dont blame Bill gates. He hasn’t ben in charge since before the first rollout of XP.
Vista is good.
All the problems ARE Microsoft’s fault… but for all the wrong reasons.
What Microsoft did wrong is kept things the same for so long… and then bring in a load of changes instantly. The result is great software… but underdeveloped software, running on hardware designed for the previous generation.
What Microsoft SHOULD have done is released a few “in between” versions of Windows and added the new features gradually. This would give it time to test and develop features, and give the market time to adjust.
Another thing Microsoft did wrong is chopped and changed too much just before the launch. Look at Vista beta 1 - 2 years ago now. It still had WinFS and all the other casualties, and looked a LOT different to the retail version.
Microsoft chopped all these features out, when it had already announced them, leaving the public disappointed.
So Vista isn’t a bad piece of software… just a poorly developed piece of software released into an unready market.
Ive been using Microsoft products for over ten years.
Im a very experienced user having worked in I.T. since an early age.
I have had enough of Vista hanging, not responding, unable to run apps and throwing its toys out of the pram if you even look at the screen.
Microsoft should be ashamed of itself for releasing such a bug ridden shambles of a package. If this is the way they treat loyal customers they are going to do so in the future without my participation. They appear to have become so big they dont care.
My next purchase will be a Mac and i’ll not be buying Microsoft products ever again.
Bye Bye Bill…..
